Kindness!
Donna Nelson's students spread kindness to all of Long Cane Primary School in Abbeville. Mrs. Nelson's students gave KINDNESS COINS to each classroom in the school for students to earn as they demonstrated kindness. A weekly Kindness Celebration. All the students gathered for a KINDNESS BALLOON LAUNCH. Each class attached notes about kindness to the balloons and had several responses from people that found the balloons. One of the balloons traveled to Saluda and the person who found it contacted the school to let them know how far the message of kindness had traveled. Shown here is Mrs. Nelson's Class leading the students at the Kindness Balloon Launch.

Music is the Key at JCCE
Students in Joyce Montalvo's 4th and 5th grade music program at John C. Calhoun Elementary School are learning to play music on keyboards. Mrs. Montalvo said, “After students learn notes on the staff they are taught to play Hot Cross Buns on the keyboard.  All of the students were able to succeed and sign a sheet saying they could play the tune. This was the students' first attempt, but we will continue playing tunes for weeks to come as the tunes get more challenging.” Mrs. Montalvo's favorite part of teaching her students to play the keyboard is seeing the impact it has on their confidence. “They light up when they realize they have learned the tune they had been working on. When their hand goes up quickly I know they are ready to play for me, and I am given the opportunity to cheer for them. The keyboard unit teaches more than notes and keys, it teaches pride and confidence. Music is the key…in more ways than one.”
