Deirdre McCullough of Calhoun Falls High School has
been named the Abbeville County School District Teacher of the Year. Ms. McCullough is a language arts teacher
for grades 7 and 8.
The selection was
announced Friday, August 4, during the District-wide in-service for the
Abbeville County School District, where about 400 educators gathered at Wright
Middle School for the kickoff of the 2006-2007 school year.
Assistant Superintendent,
Kathy Stevenson announced the selection of Ms. McCullough, who was presented a
plaque and a bouquet of flowers. She
will also receive a $1,000 award.
A portion of Ms.
McCullough’s philosophy of teaching was read to the audience. “Of all the educational achievements and
contributions I have made during my teaching career, I consider the greatest to
be the successes I have witnessed in the lives of my own students. Nothing can match the satisfaction of
witnessing lives change before your eyes.
No award can equal the reward I receive from watching my students use
what I have taught them to improve their lives and the lives of others. This is why I teach.”
Congratulations to Ms. McCullough.
